Pull the chain right to left "backwards" and have an index right along the side of the wheel that catches the back of the tooth. There would be a different thickness indexer for each size chain. This way there would be one less adjustment. Just a hard stop. And the "T" would be a hard stop down.

Set a raker to the desired height (this means filing one raker), put chain on the grinder, adjust tensioner (for the length of the chain), adjust the height of the wheel to the one you set, turn on grinder, turn handle to rotate the chain if it's set up manually or walk away if it's set up to turn the chain automatically.
Mine is a 500 as well, it's turn the base and change which pawl is being used the only thing that gets done to the grinder head is wheel direction. I guess I need to tweak this one a bit because I had to adjust the pawl slightly after rotating the base to grind the other side, the wheel was too far from the tooth.
